“If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.”
― Frances Hodgson Burnett
Can you be grateful that the rose bush has flowers and forget about the thorns, or do you focus on the thorns and fail to see the flowers?
Life is like a rose bush: It has its beauty, and it has its pain. Our state of happiness depends on whether we choose to focus on the flower or the prickly thorn. We must choose our perspectives carefully.
Shall we focus on all that is wrong with our lives, or shall we focus on the good things?
Sometimes a change in perspective is all that is needed to change our attitude. Those hard times we all go through might be necessary to prepare us for bigger and better things; perhaps there’s a lesson that God wants us to learn and the only way he can teach it to us is to have us go through some unpleasant experience. Perhaps that person who was so mean to you today had just suffered a terrible letdown or learned of a tragedy.
We can never know what goes on in another’s mind, but we do have control over our thoughts and perspectives. A change in perspective is often the only thing needed in order for us to look at a rose bush and instead of seeing thorns, we see only beauty!
